Permanent Smile
When I sat down to do my income taxes the other day, I thought I would have some car-related expenses that I would be able to deduct, but after looking at the forms for that, I was completely and utterly confused. So I decided to take it to H&R Block.
After a little discussion, Jeannette, the tax specialist, and I decided I didn't have enough expenses to offset the $130/mo car allowance I get, so we scrapped that. But she still went ahead and did the rest of my return.
Now, I was expecting maybe $300 or $400 ... so you can imagine how floored I was when she turned to me and said, "Okay, your refund will be about $1,248." Even typing that, I have to stop and pick my jaw up off the floor.
Add to that the fact I still got the student special, which includes a coupon for a free Domino's Pizza, and I'm having a fantastic day.
Plus I think this whole graphic design thing on the side is starting to take off. Just pro bono stuff right now, but it's like journalism — when you're just starting out, you've got to some volunteer jobs to get your name out there before anyone will be willing to pay you. A poster on a sports logo message board I frequent requested a logo for his Danish roller hockey team, I believe it was, and I obliged. He liked it, and I think it'll be a great first step in getting my name out there.
They say bad things come in threes. I wonder if the same applies to good things, and, if so, what number three will be. :)
